3Doors to InfoLiteracy®

Explanation of the 3Doors to InfoLiteracy®

Information literacy is the ability to find and use information with critical discrimination in order to build knowledge (Gawith, 1994).

3Doors to InfoLiteracy® is based on extensive research evidence of what students of all ages do when they have to find and use information for curriculum learning. 3Doors® was developed to give students:

  • more ownership of their learning
  • more control of the 'power tools' of learning (the Learning Actions)
  • help with transforming information into deeply understood knowledge.

Teachers can use the site in several ways:

  1. Click Using 3Doors® in the Menu and you'll find self-drive suggestions.
  2. Click Teacher's role in the menu bar for a quick overview of what 3Doors® teachers do and answers to some of teachers' frequently asked questions.
  3. Click on Curriculum Cases in the Menu to see how New Zealand teachers apply 3Doors® in the context of the curriculum. You'll find examples at all levels, early primary to secondary, and in most curriculum areas, including some examples of how 3Doors® integrates with English Online units and NEMP tasks.
  4. Click on the Learning Actions. These link to Cases which use the relevant actions, and also to the Frames (graphic outlines) which are used to coach the Learning Actions.
  5. Click on Training Options in the Menu and you'll see two options for guided staff PD.
